For years I struggled to gain muscle and lose fat while enjoying a goodly amount of food on the regular. I wanted to have my cake and eat it too. Impossible you say?! I used to think so too. At this point, I have the best of all worlds. To give you some context, I’ve been eating a Ketogenic diet for the last 5ish years. If you are are not familiar, a ketogenic diet (Keto for short) is where you eat lots of fat, moderate protein and little carbohydrates; Minimal fruits, grains and sugars . On a Keto diet, I’ve never felt better on average with lots of energy, mental focus and I pretty much never get sick anymore. I’ve tried TONS of diets in the past from your Standard American diet, to Paleo, and even tried raw veganism for year. I’d steer clear of raw veganism if you ever want to eat cooked food again haha. When I found Keto, everything seemed to change for me for the better quickly. I had lots of energy for the gym, lost weight and was far more clear headed. On top of keto, I’ve added my own method to stay super lean, in tip-top shape and still enjoy a goodly amount of food. What I do is a 3 day cycle; I eat lightly for 2 days and then I eat HEAVY on the 3rd day. This does several things. It makes to so my body doesn’t think it’s starving (aka reduce my metabolism/energy). 1 day in 3 I am extremely satisfied (over-satisfied) with tons of tasty food. The other 2 days my body is mostly in a rejuvenating state where it scavenges itself for fuel; Lookup autophagy if you want to learn more. This new habit cycle has worked wonders for me. If you feel stuck in your whatever current diet is, consider giving the 3 day cycle a try (and/or keto).
