Just between you and me, I love food and eating way waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much sometimes. Many of us have our post pandemic wish lists of what we will do after things really get going and open up again. #1 on my list is chowing down at a buffet! Though most days I would rather eat less for my health. I feel physically better (after) when I eat less. I sleep better when I eat less. I think better when I eat less (I think). I’ve discovered a few simple secrets to eating less and being just as satisfied. What’s great about these little secrets is you won’t notice you’re eating less! I’m down with tricking myself as long as it’s for my benefit. The science is strong with these techniques (feel free and check my sources below).
My secrets: I set my table with smaller plates and spoons. Smaller plates and spoons trick me into eating less; The optical illusion of a smaller plate with a pile of food on it makes me think I am eating more, when I’m eating less; A smaller spoon means I eat less food per bite, enjoying less food more over time.
SUPER DUPER SECRET flip-side use: I sometimes intentionally eat the same amount of food as before (maybe more haha), but using smaller plates and spoons. I do this if my goal is to enjoy food a whole lot more, instead of eating less.
Eat less with smaller plates and spoons and enjoy (a normal amount) or eat the same (or more) and enjoy a lot more. You choose!
