A man had a dream

Once up a time…

A man had a dream…

His name: Martin Luther King Jr.

He stood

He spoke

He loved 🥰

With everything he could muster.

The question (was not):

SHOULD I free my people?

The question (was):

HOW CAN I free my people?

His burning desire, bright as fire.

His words, his lyrics; so much spirit.

New yet timeless, plain to hear.

Not a hint of shyness.

⚡Electric words, rich in detail and texture.

A mix of kind yet firm directness.

Such power and presence;

Not unkind, never sour.

Despite the heavy burden he shouldered.

Purposeful on his feet,

Until his final hour.

Many 😣cower at their dreams.

Illusion

Distraction

Spellbinding

Yet sheer.

Once you cut through

Everything is clear

Light of truth before you.

Martin Luther king dearly desired equality.

Equality of opportunity.

No matter the color of skin.

He knew us all kin.

🤝🏽All brothers and sisters.

No matter the size, shape or skin shade.

Still the same feeling; family; kin.

Life humbles us all.

We take our blows on the chin.

Salvation from sin.

We are all the same.

👋🏽Let go of animosity.

Replace with generosity.

His dream is my dream.

MLK’s dream is only 🌓half complete.

No matter my choices, luck or talents.

I am not truly free.

Until my brother from another mother is free.

Closed eyes.

Deciding to be blind.

Open eyes!

Choose to be kind.

Act for a 🔆brighter day for us all.

Do not wait, do not forestall.

The time is now.

Take little steps.

A smile.

A kind: “hello good morning” can begin to change the story.

We must do what we can,

Where we can.

A 🦋butterfly’s wing beat,

Sends ripples spawning a tsunami.

I don’t care who you are.

I don’t care where you’re from.

I don’t care what family you were born to.

YOU are my people. 💞

When we choose silence,

Injustice pervades our community.

Absent 🤝🏽unity,

We splinter and shatter.

None of us have immunity.

So many of us arrested,

Sequestered, pestered.

Like caged animals.

I cannot imagine the anguish.

I cannot imagine the pain.

😢In a tiny cell,

All night and all day.

Being born black isn’t a crime.

Being born white doesn’t mean you’ll shine.

Bleeding blue is a choice to be the best of us.

You help take care of the rest of us.

🗽Lady Liberty’s shawl is long enough for us all.

We can rise together on golden wings.

Singing,

Laughing,

Playing together.

All kings and queens.👑

Let freedom ring!

Once upon a time…

A man had a dream…
